How do you ensure that you remain comfortable and warm while looking classy? Find out with our guide to fall transition outfits.
Transition Outfits: A Primer
If you’re anything like us, then you love organization and compartmentalization. But life isn't always simple. And neither is the business of dressing seasonally.
While autumn brings to mind sweater weather, pumpkin spice, and warm earth tones for many of us, and summer conjures up images of flowy sundresses and easy-breezy days sipping on something cold poolside, the truth, as we all know, is that the seasons don’t transition seamlessly from one into the next.
That in turn, means, that as summer transitions into fall, you may have to get creative about how you choose your outfits.
Common Elements of a Transition Outfit
When it comes to choosing summer-to-fall outfits, one of the easiest tips we can offer is that layering is your friend!
Building a versatile wardrobe with repurposable items is easier when you know what to look for. Here are some essential elements that any transitional wardrobe should have:
1. Lightweight sweaters and cardigans: Save the heavy two-ply wool sweaters and cashmere for winter. Lightweight fleece or cotton sweaters and cardigans pair well with summer short sleeve shirts and blouses for that period in between true summer and fall weather.
2. Short-sleeve & long-sleeve maxi dresses: Transition summer dresses to fall by layering a long Maxi dress with a sweater or jean jacket. Maxi dresses are ideal for summer to fall outfits compared to other dress types due to their long length. For extra coverage and warmth, consider a long-sleeve dress.
3. Denim jackets and lightweight outerwear: Denim is timeless, long-lasting, and stylish. It can also provide extra warmth when the weather starts to get colder.
4. Accessories (scarves, hats, etc.): If you’re in a relatively cold climate, then you may want to add warmth-enhancing accessories to your summer-to-fall lookbook. Think think scarves, hats, and gloves. (Even in some parts of Florida, the nights can get chilly!)
5. Shoes: Don't forget to switch out your flip flops, sandals, or open-toed heels for closed-toed heels, flats, or clogs. As the weather gets even colder, casual and comfortable ankle-length or knee-high boots are certainly not off the table, either!
